Today, we had our 2 day follow up with the pediatrician. Our regular pediatrician is out of the office for the week, so we saw a different one - Dr. Valentine. He turned out to be a saint by recommending that I see their lactation consultant, Karen, when I told him of the nursing issues I'd been having. He also checked Kaiya's tongue as he suspected that she was tongue tied. And after he did a quick check - she did and he and the lactation consultant quickly snipped her frenulum. It hurt me more than it hurt her, I think, but the doctor assured me it was no worse than biting the inside of your cheek. She screamed and cried, but only for a bit. We had to go to the lab to draw more blood for her bilirubin check...and the girl slept through the entire process of getting her heel pricked and blood drawn! Amazing...
It was interesting juggling Kaiya and Allie at the pediatrician today - thank goodness my mom was there to help! I wasn't prepared for the amount of time it took to even get out the door this morning!!
We hung around the office after the labs to meet with the lactation consultant; but Kaiya was in no mood to eat. I'm going to see if clipping that frenulum helps out any today / tonight and if it is still causing issues, will plan on heading back tomorrow.
So...
3 things that you should know about newborns:
1) They eat every few hours....around the clock...
2) They pee / poop the same frequency that they eat...
3) They sleep when they're not doing #1 and #2
